ILMS is a 2014 State School of Character
Congratulations to every student, parents, staff, businesses, and community members:
I am proud of you! For months I have been watching you teach, learn, and interact with one another and I am amazed with your kindness, support of one another, and commitment to change the world. Being at ILMS is an honor and a privilege and I am thankful to be part of the Warrior family.
Our school recently received some outstanding news. Indian Land Middle School has been named a 2014 STATE SCHOOL OF CHARACTER. Congratulations to every student and every staff member!
This prestigious recognition was presented to only two schools in our state and only 44 schools across the United States. Thank you all for sharing a common vision on character development.
Awards of this caliber are a reflection of not only what is happening in our building, but also of the way the community supports our school. I have come to understand and appreciate a sincere partnership between the school and the community .
I ask for your continued support as we work toward excellence. Together, we will continue to make this world a better place for all children.

GET SMART, STAY SMART ASSEMBLY - Thursday, April 24
We will host visitors from the SC Department of Corrections. At this assembly, students will hear from inmates (who have been previously screened) about mistakes they made, living conditions in prison, and how their mistakes impacted their lives. This is a powerful assembly and students typically leave feeling determined to make wise choices. If you wish for you student to opt-out of the assembly, please contact the school.
It's that time of year! Join us on Saturday, April 26th
between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. in front of the Middle School. This year you also have the opportunity
to rent a space for your own sales. It is $25 for a space and you can sell your used goods or turn it into a craft space. This is a great way to make some money from spring cleaning or from your hard work crafting.
The Fish Fry
starts at 11 and will continue until we close or are out of food. Plates are $7 in advance and $8 at the sale.
If you want to help us out! Please forward or post the attached poster. If you have junk (treasures) to get rid of and don't want to have your own space, we will gladly accept used goods for the yard sale.

NEW Summer Reading Criterion
In an effort to support national and state literacy standards, we have created new Summer Reading criterion. Our new summer literacy program is completely different from our previous programs. The primary differences are as follows:
- Each student must purchase either a paperback or e-Reader version. He/she must bring his/her book/tablet on the first day of school (and all subsequent days until the unit is complete).
- Each student must read the book in its entirety and complete the activities during the summer break; the completed activity folder will be submitted to the Language Arts teachers on the FIRST DAY of school.
- During the first three weeks of school, your child's Language Arts teachers will implement projects, literature circle activities, and writing assessments that correlate with the summer reading text and assignments.
- Students who enroll at ILMS from other districts (after July 15) will be given an August 29, 2014, extension.
- The media center staff will be selling some of the summer reading selections during our May 22 - May 27 Book Fair. You may also purchase your book from Barnes & Noble (Pineville) or Amazon.com.
- Try to purchase the summer reading text and download the appropriate activity criterion (below) at the BEGINNING of summer break. The reading/activities will require much thought and effort.
- Please PACE...don't PROCRASTINATE!
- For more information, please contact media specialist Sherri Alston.

We are not sure of the implementation date, but info will be distributed prior to the end of June. If students have saved documents in their e-Chalk accounts, please ask them to download and save them to an external hard drive or personal home computer drive.
Order forms were sent home on Wednesday, April 23. Our special day is planned for Friday, May 23, 2014, and students will have the chance to purchase a cook-out meal and field day t-shirt. Please return your order form by May 1, 2014. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mrs. Loughry.
ILM is planning a special program on May 16, 2014, and we are currently seeking volunteers. Please contact Ms. Dunning or Ms. Retter for more info.
SPRING SPORTS & PHYSICAL INFO...
Indian Land Middle School is partnering with Barnett Family Practice to offer sports physicals to all students. The sports physical is required to TRY OUT and compete in middle school athletics. Students - if you think you may want to be on a team during the 2014-2015 school year - at ILMS or at the high school - a physical will be needed.
Barnett Family Practice has set aside SATURDAY APRIL 26th from 9-11AM to offer physicals to our students. Cost is just $20.00 per athlete - which is a tremendous savings compared to going to your family physician.
If you are interested in getting your physical on Saturday, April 26th, please download and complete the physical form
. Ask your parent to mark April 26th on their calendar. Again, cost is $20.00 and physicals will be done at Barnett Family Practice.
YMCA Ballantyne Run
Indian Land Middle is trying to rally the troops for the upcoming Ballantyne Run! The race is slated for May 17, 2014. Our goal is to have as many IL Warriors running together and supporting each other as possible. Last year IL won 1st place for our division. The cost is $20 and you must sign up no later than April 30, 2014. If you sign up after April 30, the cost will increase.
For more information, please download these documents (page 1 page 2
) OR contact Meghan Retter.
