Daily Announcements

INDIAN LAND MIDDLE IS A
NATIONAL SCHOOLS TO WATCH MIDDLE SCHOOL

On Tuesday, February 2, Principal David McDonald and Assistant Principal Gin Sorrow surprised the faculty and student body by announcing that ILMS has been selected as a National Schools to Watch Middle School.

Over the past two years, the ILMS administration, faculty, parents, and students have collaborated to highlight our school's assets and problem-solve to ameliorate our deficiencies. We focused our programs and services on the four key STW criterion - Academic Excellence, Social Equity, Developmental Responsiveness, and Organizational Support.

On Wednesday, January 27, and Thursday, January 28, the STW Team visited our campus.  They interviewed faculty members, custodians, cafeteria workers, parents, students, community members, representatives from the LCSD administrative staff. They observed classroom and media center lessons and participated in team meetings. They also studied student artifacts to see the extent to which they correlate with our SC Standards.

Our great Warrior Nation is proud to be named a National Schools to Watch Middle School.  In June, representatives from our school will travel to Washington, DC to be recognized for our school's outstanding accomplishments.

Make-Up Work Policy

It is vital to teach our young adults the importance of being responsible and having a good work ethic. One means of teaching these qualities entails our asking students to complete missed assignments. Because we have high expectations for all learners, we encourage them to submit missed assignments according to the following guidelines:

Number of Days Missed Days to Make Up Work
1-2 2
3 3
4 4
5 or more 5

If student neglect to submit missed assignments, they will receive a grade of "0" for the assignments. We suggest that upon returning to school, students should ask their teachers to provide them with a list of their make-up work. In addition, students and parents may check the teachers' e-Chalk pages to see when they are available for extra tutoring. Finally, we encourage you to contact the teacher to set up a time for the students to receive the extra help they need.

Setting Up a Parent e-Chalk Account

Would you like to have access to your children's e-Chalk teacher pages?  If so, please follow these simple instructions:
  • Under the Parent Portal tab you will see the following: e-Chalk Parent Registration Form.

  • To complete the registration process and activate your account, please go to your Inbox and open the verification message from: 'eChalk Registration' with the subject line 'eChalk Registration Verification Email' and follow the instructions.
If you have students in several Indian Land schools, you may access all of your children's pages via the same account.  Please follow these simple instructions:

Important Message About E-Mailing Your Child's Teachers

As always, the ILMS faculty and administration encourage open communication between home and school.  Unfortunately, some of your e-mails end up in our SPAM filter.

According to the Lancaster County School District, parents should place the following words in the SUBJECT line of each e-mail:  regarding my student (all lowercase with no punctuation or extra words). By inserting these words in the subject line, teachers and administrators will be able to receive your e-mails.

Words of Wisdom

Welcome to Indian Land Middle School, home of the Warriors!  Indian Land Middle School is an outstanding place to teach and learn.  A testament to the school's success is the strong support from our parents, community, school personnel, and district administration.  The collaborative effort among these constituents is critical to our success.

With a shared vision, our administration and faculty earnestly develop our students' scholarship, character, and citizenship.  We accomplish this by demonstrating exceptional teaching reflective of the best practices in education,  offering all students the opportunity to participate in clubs, organizations, and athletics, and having them take part in our annual One Book, One School literacy and service learning projects.

Parents...let's continue to present a united front by developing a strong partnership between home and school.  By participating on the School Improvement Council, joining the Parent Teacher Association,  volunteering your time and services, and attending conferences and school events, you will validate the importance of education to your children.

With a spirit of optimism, I welcome you to a new school year.   Here's to teamwork, community building, and a commitment to do our best for the students at Indian Land Middle School.
